This project is an ongoing personal narrative of “Time in the City.” Many people are relocated generation after generation for economic reasons. Following in the footsteps of my mother and grandmother before her, I find myself relocated to the city. My mother recounts stories of her meanderings from here to there, of trips to places that no longer exist, of stores long since gone, and of buildings that are now just a part of her memory. These photographs are part of my history in the making. Many of the places will fall out of favor, be redeveloped, or simply be destroyed. The photographs are of the ordinary, the things and places passed by and overlooked. To me, however, they represent the extra-ordinary, the culture and core of what is the city. The city is an ever-changing work in progress. Ideas of what a community should-be change, and so too does the city. This time is my time in the city, and these are the photographs of what will become my stories. |
